Objective
UNICEF’s mission is to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF is guided in doing this by the provisions and principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was adopted and opened for signature on November 1989 (http://www2.ohchr.org/english/law/crc.htm#art54).
Whereas the Convention on the Rights of the Child vests a wide range of duties with the state parties, its Articles 4, 22.2 and 28.3 mention the framework of international co-operation as an option in cases where the resources available to the state parties would not be sufficient to undertake the measures for the implementation of the rights recognized in the Convention.
